2011 Susan Egan
Actress, singer and entertainer Susan Egan has worked for, as she says, almost every part of the Disney universe.
That association began when she originated the role of Belle in Disney’s first Broadway musical, Beauty and the Beast, in 1994. She won the role of hundreds of other actresses, earned a Tony Award nomination as Best Actress in a Musical, and went on to play the role for more than two years. Since then, she has appeared in several more Broadway shows, including Triumph of Love, Cabaret and Thoroughly Modern Millie.
Her Disney association continued when she was chosen (following a long audition process) to provide the voice of Meg in the animated feature Hercules. Again working with Beauty and the Beast composer Alan Menken, she introduced the song “I Won’t Say (I’m in Love).” She has continued to voice Meg in the Kingdom Hearts video games, on the House of Mouse television program, and the Hercules television series. Her subsequent voice work has included the singing voice of Angel in Lady and the Tramp II: Scamp’s Adventure and voices in Disney’s English-language presentations of Hayao Miyazaki’s Porco Rosso and Spirited Away.
Susan was the first outside entertainer selected by the Disney Cruise Line to perform for passengers. She has since performed on more than 15 extended cruises, such as passage through the Panama Canal and trans-Atlantic crossings.
