2001 Joyce Carlson

Joyce Carlson helped create the original it’s a small world for the 1964 New York World’s Fair, and was one of a handful of artists Walt sent to install the attraction. She later refitted the attraction for its permanent home in Disneyland, and also helped create the versions at Walt Disney World and at Tokyo Disneyland. Of course, the attraction was only one highlight of a 56-year career at Disney. She spent 16 years in the Ink and Paint Department, where she worked on such features as The Three Caballeros, Victory Through Air Power, Cinderella, and Peter Pan. She moved to WED Enterprises in 1960, where she helped build miniature prototypes of attractions. Before retiring, she spent time on assignment in Tokyo and, finally, helping to maintain many attractions at Walt Disney World.
