2004 Tony Baxter

Imagineer Tony Baxter started at Disneyland in 1965. During his five years in the Park, his jobs included sweeping, scooping ice cream and operating attractions. Through it all, he dreamed of working as an Imagineer. His dream came true in 1970, when he was hired after graduating from college. He was first assigned to the on-site team working on the opening of Walt Disney World. In 1973, he came up with the concept for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad; the attraction opened at Disneyland in 1979. His subsequent projects have included the 1982 re-design of Disneyland’s Fantasyland, the original Journey Into Imagination, The Disney Gallery in Disneyland’s New Orleans Square, Star Tours, Splash Mountain, the Indiana Jones Adventure, the re-design of the Sleeping Beauty Castle walkthrough at Disneyland, the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage and, most recently, the re-launch of Great Moments With Mr. Lincoln. Tony was also the lead Imagineer for the development and construction of Disneyland Paris.
