2009 Jodi Benson

Actress, singer and voice talent Jodi Benson is best known as the voice of Ariel in The Little Mermaid, but she has also made many other distinguished contributions to the Disney legacy. She appeared on Broadway in the musical Smile, written by Marvin Hamlisch and Howard Ashman. The show introduced the song “Disneyland,” and established the mentor relationship with Ashman that ultimately led to her work as Ariel. Jodi has continued to play Ariel in such film sequels as The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea and The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Beginning, in the television series The Little Mermaid, in the Kingdom Hearts video game, and in such theme park attractions as Mickey’s PhilharMagic. But Ariel is not the only Disney character that Jodi has voiced. Others include Weebo in Flubber, Helen of Troy in the television series Hercules, Lady in Lady and the Tramp II: Scamp’s Adventure, Anita in 101 Dalmatians II: Patch’s London Adventure, and Tour Guide Barbie in the Toy Story films. As an actress, Jodi appeared as Patrick Dempsey’s assistant, Sam, in Enchanted. As a singer, Jodi has appeared in such television events as The Walt Disney World 25th Anniversary Spectacular and Disney’s 100 Years of Magic. She is proud to be the resident guest soloist for The Walt Disney Company and the Disney Cruise Line.
