2009 David Mumford

David Mumford started at Disney in 1974 as a ride operator on Disneyland’s Submarine Voyage. He became an Imagineer in 1979, working as a show set draftsman for The Land at Epcot. Over the years, David was involved in a show-set capacity on several attractions, including Alice in Wonderland for Disneyland’s New Fantasyland, The Living Seas for Epcot, and the Cinderella Castle Mystery Tour for Tokyo Disneyland. In 1989, he served as the show producer for Star Tours at Tokyo Disneyland. He also was the show producer for Aladdin’s Oasis in Adventureland at Disneyland. His final WDI assignments included the revised Journey Into Imagination with Figment at Epcot and as Art Director of Mermaid Lagoon at Tokyo DisneySea. His expertise as a Disney historian was well known throughout the company, and was put to use when David served as associate producer on the 1989 Disney Channel special, The Disneyland Story. He was a frequent speaker on Disney. He put his Disney historical expertise to use in the many Disney-related books that he wrote with his longtime friend and colleague, Bruce Gordon, and others. The titles include Disneyland: The Nickel Tour; A Brush With Disney: An Artist’s Journey; Walt’s Time: From Before to Beyond; Walt Disney Imagineering: A Behind the Dreams Look at Making the Magic Real and Ellenshaw Under Glass. David was an especially good friend of the NFFC, and his convention appearances with Bruce Gordon (The Bruce and David Show) remain legendary for all who were fortunate enough to see them. David passed away in January, 2003.
