1999 Roy E. Disney

Roy E. Disney was the son of company co-founder Roy O. Disney. Roy Edward joined The Walt Disney Company in 1954 as an assistant film editor for motion pictures. His early assignments include two Oscar winners, The Living Desert and The Vanishing Prairie. As a writer and production associate, he was nominated for an Academy Award for the 1959 short subject Mysteries of the Deep. Roy went on to produce and direct 35 other television and theatrical films before becoming an independent producer and investor. In 1984, Roy played a crucial role in bringing Michael Eisner and Frank Wells to Disney, and assumed his first full-time position at the Studio since 1977 when he took responsibility for overall direction of the Feature Animation division. He served as the Executive Producer of Fantasia 2000. He also was instrumental in completing Destino, the fabled collaboration between Walt and surrealist artist Salvador Dali. After a public break with the company, Roy spearheaded the Save Disney movement that eventually led to Michael Eisner’s departure and Bob Iger’s appointment as Disney CEO.
